Summary, etc.	Obra ensalzada y demonizada con parejo entusiasmo, escrita en el exilio en 1513, publicada póstumamente en 1531 y traducida por primera vez al español recién en 1821. El príncipe, de Nicolás Maquiavelo, expone con notable claridad los grandes temas de la teoría política: ¿cómo llegar al poder y de qué manera mantenerse en él? ¿cuáles son los orígenes y la estructura del poder? ¿es la política un deber o una ciencia? Temas que son abordados de manera tan sencilla y a la vez tan sugerente y llena de implicancias que a lo largo de varios siglos ha fascinado a estudiosos y gobernantes, entre ellos, a Napoleón Bonaparte, cuyos comentarios al texto se incorporan en esta edición. Nacido en Florencia en 1469, Niccolò di Bernardo del Machiavelli fue funcionario, diplomático, labriego, leñador y cuanto oficio le fuese necesario ejercer para sobrevivir, pero, esencialmente, filósofo, político y editor. Autor prolífico y de gran versatilidad, murió en 1527 ignorado y olvidado por sus contemporáneos.
